themarvelageofcomics:

Splash page to the Hulk story from TALES TO ASTONISH #79 by Jack Kirby and Bill Everett.

Kirby only did layouts on this story, so his border notes were incredibly extensive:

OPENING SHOT – HULK CAUGHT IN FIERCE RAYS COMING OUT OF GADGETRY HELD BY EVIL SCIENTIST. LIGHTNING-LIKE ENERGY PLAYS ABOUT HULK AS HE ADVANCES MENACINGLY TOWARDS SCIENTIST—FIGHTING AGAINST THE FLASH OF THE RAYS—BACKGROUND IS IN GADGETRY ROOM WHERE HULK WAS KEPT IN PIT DURING PREVIOUS STORY—SCIENTIST SAYS—THIS CREATURE IS LOADED WITH GREAT ENERGY—HE SHOULD BE ON HIS BEHIND—BUT KEEPS ADVANCING

It’s also clear from this scan that the title of the story was cut out of the board and changed from whatever it had been earlier.
