The trajectory of intelligence is away from the body. Impeded by pain, distracted by pleasure, the body fails intelligence. There is a mindlessness to pleasure that the body itself despises. Intelligence seeks to escape the circumstances that restrain it. Embodiment being the greatest limitation, intelligence seeks to escape the body. Having arisen from the universe, intelligence bestows the universe with intelligence; and being limited to life, intelligence expands the frontiers of life, even at the expense of lives. In the future, it is fervently to be wished, advances in physics and biology will render the entire universe totally available to consciousness.
